Dr. Zearott is an artist with vast experience as a conductor, pianist, composer, and teacher. He received the first Ph.D. in Composition at UCLA. As a First Prize, Gold Medal winner of the Dmitri Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition, he conducted the New York Philharmonic in Lincoln Center. He made his European debut on the Special Series “Les Concerts du Palais Princier” in Monaco with violinist Zino Francescatti on invitation of His Serene Highness Prince Rainier. Zearott has been Assistant Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony, Associate Conductor of l’Orchestre National de Monte Carlo, Music Director of the Ojai Festival and the Los Angeles Guild Opera. He has guest conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Symphony, California Chamber Symphony, Glendale Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic, Santa Cruz Symphony, San Diego Symphony and others in New York and Europe.
He has been a pianist for the Heifetz Master Class and has toured the US with the Chorales of Roger Wagner and Robert Shaw. His piano background includes work with Alexander Karnbach (violist and keyboardist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic), Bernard Comsky (student of Tarnowsky, a teacher of Horowitz), Gyorgy Sandor (protégé of Bartók), Leo Smit (student of Vengerova), and Jakob Gimpel (pupil of Steuermann). Accompanying study was with Emanuel Bay (Heifetz’s accompanist), and Gwendolyn Kodolfsky (Lotte Lehman’s accompanist).
He is active as a composer with a large list of compositions to his credit in all media. Most recently he has co-authored with Annette Klover a new book on basic music theory called MUSIC X 12.
Dr. Zearott has been a faculty member of UCLA, CSLA, CSLB, Marymount College, and recently was a Conductor in Residence and Visiting Profess at Michigan State University.
